The Academy

TRP understands that the future we desire begins with the youth we inspire.  The Academy’s mission is to educate, empower, and mobilize youth within marginalized communities, ultimately preparing them for civic and corporate leadership. The Academy’s focus is on the following principles:

  • Innovation
  • Leadership Development
  • Mental Wellness

At its core, The Academy seeks to foster a generation of youth who care for themselves and their communities.  The Academy will work towards holistically building a global culture of leaders who are not simply READY to lead, but who are PREPARED to lead.

With the limited numbers of leadership preparatory opportunities in marginalized communities, TRP will target disturbing statistics, starting in the Raleigh-Durham area.

Cohort One Survey Data Summer 2017:

  • 94% of program scholars rated the Summer Institute Very Challenging
  • 100% of the scholars appreciated the STEM focus – Application Desire
  • 88% of scholars believed that the Summer Institute were aligned with their personal goals
  • 100% of scholars were excited about the opportunity to apart of the TRP, Global Inc., Leadership Academy.
  • 88% of scholars reported being engaged with their instructor
  • 100% of scholars reported an increase in awareness and knowledge in: Self-Awareness, Financial Literary, and Application Building.
  • 94% of scholars reported satisfaction with scholar to instructor ration of 5 to 1
  • 88% of scholars acknowledged an increase in their understanding of leadership

“The Academy” Six Learning Modules

Self-Awareness and Self Knowledge

Participants will develop knowledge of self and others in order to prepare for effective leadership. This will be accomplished through a series of activities that promote healthy relationships, self-esteem, identity, cultural awareness, development of critical thinking, communication and organizational skills.

Leadership

Participants will learn the basic concepts of leadership development. This will be accomplished through a series of activities by defining and understanding what it means to be a leader. Participants will be exposed to different models and theories of leadership.

Academic Success

Participants will learn how to plan their academic studies in order to have successful academic performance in preparation of postsecondary education. This will be accomplished through a series of activities, such as learning time-management and study skills. In addition, participants will have opportunities to visit multiple college and university campuses.

Career Awareness

Participants will become familiar with career research and paths to careers. This will be accomplished through a series of activities that requires them to apply skills, such as decision-making skills, to career selection.

Civic Leadership

Participants will learn the basic concepts of community. Opportunities to examine the influence of culture on community and will have an opportunity to create and implement a community service project.

Financial Literacy

Participants will learn the basic concepts of financial literacy and personal finance. This will be accomplished through a series of activities that promote successful financial planning.
