The TRP Leadership Academy currently serves nineteen seventh and eighth grade students at Neal Middle School, which is one of nine Middle Schools in Durham Public Schools and one of two magnet schools within the school district. In 2018, TRP will accept its second cohort of twenty-five eight graders from across Durham Public Schools’ nine middle schools. The goal is to create a STEM-focused, synergistic learning environment of diverse students to share and exchange ideas, concepts, and knowledge.

The TRP Counseling Center will provide clinical pastoral care, community advocacy, and direct services to the Raleigh-Durham area with heightened awareness of those within marginalized communities.

HOW DO WE SERVE?

TRP, Global Inc., Leadership Academy convenes a two-week summer academy with a focus on the following: year one -  building web based applications; year two - robotics; year three - building a business plan for marketing student designed concepts. The young scholars participate in one Saturday Academy per month working through TRP’s Scholar Curriculum, which includes self-awareness, leadership, academic success, career awareness, citizenship, and financial literacy.

The TRP Counseling Center will serve the Raleigh-Durham area with monthly power sessions that focus on financial health, healthy living, and community engagement. The Center will become a training location for mental health first aid. In addition, The Center will partner with the faith community to provide mental health training, services, and support. The ultimate desire is to be a resource for direct services.

HOW DO WE WIN?

TRP, Global Inc., Leadership Academy has several evaluation instruments in place to determine effectiveness and increase desired outcomes.  One of these tools is an annual pre-test and post-test assessment using a qualitative instrument. Each scholar has a comprehensive individual development plan that is authored collaboratively by the student, the student’s mentor, and a school representatives. In partnership with the scholar’s school, The Leadership Academy will track academic, behavior, and attendance indicators to evaluate the curriculum’s implementation and adoption.

The TRP Counseling Center will measure success by the tabulating the number of individuals completing the mental health first aid course and participating in a web-based follow-up tool.  We will also use a Likert scale tool and the Common Core Writing Rubrics twice a year to measure student growth and program performance.
